About Us

kamran shahWelcome to the Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center (WSU/DMC) Radiology Department.

We appreciate your interest in our educationally rigorous, diverse and team oriented department encompassing over 60 radiologists, 9 PhD's and 39 Diagnostic Radiology Residents. Our environment offers a unique learning opportunity with 4 major core campus hospitals including a nationally recognized Children's Hospital, trauma hospital and cancer institute. In addition to the core campus, residents have the opportunity to practice at a number of sites throughout the Detroit Metro area, including a state of the art imaging center and women's imaging facility.

The WSU/DMC program is a large one encompassing approximately 645,000 exams per year spread over a number of hospitals. Among this rich patient resource is the opportunity for developing first-rate diagnostic skills and experiencing all types of imaging procedures from the highly complex to the basic. We encompass all subspecialties of diagnostic radiology, both on an organ system and age basis.

The equipment at the Detroit Medical Center is substantial. We have a number of multi-slice CT scanners as well as 5 clinical magnets. Currently, 2 PET scanners serve the core campus. The ultrasound equipment is extensive and current. The entire campus is tied together by a single PAC's system which allows any physician anywhere on campus to view any patients image obtained anywhere within the Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University system. Two dedicated research magnets reside on the core downtown campus.

Scholarship is the core of our practice. From the extensive diagnostic radiology teaching series to specialized conferences and guided reading assignments, each resident's education is carefully monitored. In addition to teaching we believe that research is the core of diagnostic radiology. Residents are expected to participate, with faculty mentors, in research projects during their training period. This has proven to be a very highly successful program with residents making a number of presentations at national and international scientific meetings.

In summary, Wayne State University has it all, a large diverse patient mix, sufficient imaging equipment and the facilities and faculty to develop your scholarly pursuits.

We hope that you will consider exploring the WSU/DMC opportunity on a faculty, trainee, or clinical staff level.
