Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Radiology at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. We invite you to explore the many facets of our department embedded in this updated website. Opportunities abound for medical students, radiology residents, clinical faculty and research scientists in clinical experience, leadership training, research and professional development.

With our central campus sited in the heart of Detroit, we endeavor to serve the community, the state and world by providing transformative service, education and research in diagnostic and interventional radiology. We provide unique exposure to the opportunities and challenges of urban healthcare and matrix organizational structures. Experience in a diversity of clinical settings encompasses Michigan’s first level 1 trauma center, a cancer center, a children’s hospital, a rehabilitation institute, community hospitals and a Veterans Administration hospital. Our department offers an inclusive culture and our medical school ranks in the top 15% of U.S. medical schools regarding diversity. We appreciate and encourage your interest in our department.

Residency Program

The WSU/DMC is a program rich in history, having trained many outstanding radiologists for over 50 years. Our environment offers a unique learning opportunity with 3 major campuses including a nationally recognized Children's Hospital with a level 1 pediatric trauma center, level 1 adult trauma center, busiest level 2 trauma center in the State of Michigan, and National Cancer Institute (NCI) comprehensive cancer center. In addition to the main downtown core campus hospitals, residents rotate at two community hospital campuses.

The DMC is recognized by the U.S. News World & Report's Best Hospitals rankings as national leaders in adult and pediatric specialties. Our dedicated teaching faculty provides an excellent clinical and educational experience for our residents with numerous opportunities to do clinical and basic science research. Our graduates are well-trained with the necessary skills to succeed in a career in academic or private practice radiology and become future leaders in the field.
