Pediatric radiology pathway

The Detroit Medical Center / Wayne State University Diagnostic Radiology Residency is pleased to offer the combined pediatric radiology / diagnostic radiology training pathway for interested residency applicants starting in the 2025-2026 application cycle. In this pathway, resident will complete 15 months of pediatric radiology rotations, including 3 months of pediatric radiology related rotations during their diagnostic radiology residency.

Residents that complete the pathway are eligible for subspecialty board certification in pediatric radiology without having to have completed a traditional fellowship in pediatric radiology. At this time, there is 1 advanced position and 1 R1 (Physician Only) position available for the combined pathway in the 2025-2026 application cycle. Of note, Children’s Hospital of Michigan offers a separate 1-year fellowship in pediatric radiology for which more information can be found here.

Residents accepted into the pathway will complete the majority of their 15 months of pediatric radiology or related rotations at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, primarily in the fourth year of radiology training (R4 year or PGY-5). The first two years of diagnostic radiology residency training is expected to be the same or nearly the same as that of a standard diagnostic radiology resident at the Detroit Medical Center. However, pediatric radiology core and related rotations will be available during the R1, R2, and R3 years of diagnostic radiology training as well. Successful candidates will be awarded certificates in both diagnostic radiology and the pediatric radiology subspecialty.

Candidates interested in the pathway should exhibit a strong interest in pediatric imaging and demonstrate strong clinical and academic competency. Interested applicants can apply to the pediatric radiology / diagnostic radiology residency separately in the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) here.

More information about the program can be found on the American Board of Radiology website here.
