Mission statement and program aims

The mission of the Detroit Medical Center Radiology-Diagnostic Residency is to be one of the premier diagnostic radiology residency programs in the nation that trains excellent future radiologists; unwavering in our commitment to excellent patient care, interpretation of studies in all imaging modalities, performance of image guided procedures, scholarship, mentorship, and a culture of collaboration. Our residents train at sites that expose them to diverse patient populations and helps them become patient advocates who understand the social and economic implications of radiologic examinations. Our residents are well rounded, with strong records of achievement that includes ultimate certification, interest in research, teaching, leadership, and preparation for fellowship.

Program aims

  1. Prepares residents to provide exceptional patient care and clinically-relevant interpretations through exposure to:
    1. Patients of differing socioeconomic backgrounds, each with unique challenges;
    2. Advanced, high-acuity pathologies;
    3. High case volumes, particularly during supervised night float and semi-independent pediatric call experiences;
    4. Robust didactic curriculum and courses
    5. Scholarly activity opportunities that accommodate a range of interests
    6. A diverse, unique variety of practice sites; and
    7. Unique fourth-year clinical experiences.
  2. Equips trainees with skills in teaching, critical thinking, quality improvement, and research that are valuable in any practice setting, both academic and private practice.
  3. Empowers residents to be a part of innovation and continuous improvement, while developing valuable skills in teamwork and leadership.
  4. Promotes life-long learning, allowing graduates to anticipate the medical needs of any specialty and to deliver optimal and timely diagnoses
  5. Role-models moral, ethical and professional values
